I was thrilled when @kimdesmondphotography reached out to collaborate with me while I was in Colorado for some cosmetic issues. We went to the same high school, so our lives have always been intertwined - but we'd never had the opportunity for deeply personal or lengthy conversation. I was INCREDIBLY EXCITED to finally get to know someone I'd deeply admired and whose artwork I'd been following for years. These photos are the result of our 3 hour shoot, both of us playing model and photographer.
I call this set K Pop Pink because of Kim's backdrop. I had brought some random props from home, including this metallic painted paper sculpture from a 3D art class in college. I wanted to play around with dimension and depth.
During our shoot we spoke about heartbreak, loss, strength & self-love and I wanted to capture some of that in her expression. I loved that Kim was wearing absolutely NO MAKEUP (except for some lip gloss) for our entire shoot. There's something truly beautiful about a bare face.
Who knew a simple scarf could bring so much vibrancy to an image?!?! I am OBSESSED with it!
My mother picked this mask up somewhere in California during the 1980s or 90s. A little taste of our dark side.
Both 2016 & 2017 were hurricanes of negative energy for me and in running from the storm I forgot who I was and what I wanted to do. Shooting with Kim was INSPIRING & INVIGORATING. I had forgotten how much I LOVED photography and how important it was to feed my soul. This particular shoot holds a special place in my heart as it marks my whole hearted, unabashed return to photography. I'll be giving it 150% from here on out.
